Idaho Real Estate Continuing Education Requirements

Active licensees are required to complete 20 hours of continuing education during each license period in order to renew their license on an active status effective July 1, 2003. Inactive licensees are not required to complete CE, unless they are changing to an active license status.

On July 1, 2002, the Continuing Education Program was expanded to allow for more options in obtaining the elective credit hours for the CE program. The core course requirement remains the one course developed annually by the Real Estate Commission (IREC), but the elective requirement (minimum of 8 hours for FY03 and minimum of 16 hours after FY03) has been changed to include all of the following options:
# CE Core Course (an additional different Core)

# Broker Courses (Law, Brokerage Management, Finance, Valuation & Analysis, GRI) NOTE: All broker licensing classes (Real Estate Law,

# Real Estate Finance, Brokerage Management, and Areas of Real Estate Specialization) taken during your most recent 2-year license renewal will count toward your continuing education, even if these classes were taken prior to July 1, 2002.

# Real Estate Commission Meeting attendance will be approved for up to 3 CE credit hours. Call IREC for specific details and requirements. Elective courses approved by IREC.

# Excess credits are NOT carried over to the next renewal period.

# No duplicate credit is given for courses completed within the same license period

# Education required as part of any disciplinary action will NOT count toward CE requirements

# Also beginning July 1, 2002, licensees began to self-certify that they have completed the CE requirement. They are required to provide CE documentation to IREC on the CE course verification portion of the form when they renew on active status or change from inactive status to active status. Random audits of CE self certification forms will be conducted by IREC. Licensees are advised to keep a copy of their course completion certificates for the CE auditing purposes.

Reciprocal Licensure & CE
Upon renewal, persons licensed under an interstate reciprocal agreement, or a license recognition agreement, (a formal agreement between states) must comply with the continuing education requirements in Idaho, or of his or her state of residence. For a current listing of states with which Idaho has an agreement with, go to the licensing agreements with other states and/or provinces section of the IREC Web Page.
