All active brokers are required to complete MCE for an active license renewal. The MCE requirement is 15 classroom (clock) hours of TREC approved MCE courses. At least six of the 15 hours must consist of a three hour legal update course and a three hour legal ethics course created for and approved by TREC to satisfy the six legal hours of mandatory continuing education required by Occupations Code §1101.455. A licensee cannot obtain credit for a course that was not approved for MCE at the time the course was conducted. A course may not be repeated for credit during the same license period.

TREC Legal Update MCE (3 hours)
The purpose of this course is to communicate recent updates, changes, and addendums to laws, regulations, legal definitions, and forms as they apply to real estate practice in the state of Texas.
Home Inspection (3 hours Elective)
This course presents an overview of the home inspection business and explains how it fits into the real estate industry as a whole. In addition, the course covers the regulatory bodies and professional organizations associated with home inspection.
Liens, Taxes and Foreclosures (3 hours Elective)
This module discusses liens, taxes and foreclosures. There are many types of liens, as well as several kinds of taxes, that can attach to a parcel of real estate.
Deeds (3 hours Elective)
The last lesson in this module is a real estate practice lesson in which the student is presented with real world situations that licensees might face in the field.

Real Estate Math (3 hours Elective)
This course covers math principles essential in the practice of real estate. Some of these topics may already be familiar to the student. The course will elaborate on how the subject matter pertains to real estate in everyday use.
Real Estate MCE Testing
The student must pass each lesson’s quiz in order to move onto the next lesson, each module is consist of 4 Quizzes (10 questions with 100% pass rate) and 1 final (30 questions with 70% pass rate). In order to complete the course, the student must pass the final quiz. The final exam may be taken up to three times if necessary.
Real Estate Course Time to Completion
Once you enroll on any of our Texas Real Estate Mandatory Continuing Education Packages you will have 6 months to successfully complete the course. If you do not complete the course in 6 months you will not receive a certificate for course completion.
Real Estate Mandatory Continuing Education Certificate
Any applicable completion certificates or affidavits can be found by clicking the Help link in the navigation bar on the Course Catalog. The affidavit will also be available to print upon course completion.
Real Estate License Pre-Requisite
The Texas Real Estate Mandatory Continuing Education package does not have any pre-requisites. If you need to renew an active license without an additional fee, MCE must have been completed within the term of the license being renewed.

For distance learning, The Texas Real Estate Commission considers an online course complete when credit is awarded by the provider. The provider shall award the student credit for the course no earlier than 24 hours after the student starts and completes the course requirements for credit. The certificate shall reflect the completion date that conforms with this requirement. Please take this 24 hour period into consideration when choosing to start your course, especially if you are extremely close to your expiration date.
